Biography of Andrew Howell
Harrow born and bred, Andrew is one of a number of promising young athletes in his generation.
Aged just 18, he has already made a name for himself, not only in the local Harrow Athletics club, and in the UK National Young Athletics League, but has also taken part in the English Schools Internationals. In only his second season, he was accepted for the uk:athletics 2004/5 Regional Talent Development Squad for the London region.
He held the Harrow Athletics Club under-17 record for the 400m. hurdles at 54.34 sec, which he established at Gateshead in 2004.
He started hurdling at age 10, when he took part in the borough sports, representing his local school. He then started representing Harrow Athletics club in the under-13 group, where he took part in the 80-metre hurdles. It was as an under-15 that he began to be noticed at county level in the 400m hurdles.
Following a 2005 season ruined by injury, he came back in strength the following year, carving more than two seconds off his time to establish a new personal best of 52.91 seconds for the under-21 400m hurdles.
Apart from Athletics, Andrew is interested other sports. He is a keen swimmer, tennis player, and footballer.
He continues to live in Harrow, surrounded by family and friends, including mum, Karen, who is the Number One Fan, supporter, and taxi driver.
